Marine & Civil
Cockatoo Island, Kimberley Coast
The BSP SL 30da hammers are designed to drive sheet piles and
small bearing piles of concrete steel or timber.
Thyssenkrupp Steelcom has supplied Marine & Civil Construction
Pty Ltd. the BSP SL30da 2.5t hammer to drive piles at its Cockatoo
Island Project.
The BSP SL30da hammer with a max impact energy of 30 kJ and blow
rate of 84bpm, performed really well. According to the project
supervisor, Kim Lamont of Marine & Civil, “the drive
times were about half of that of the air hammer”.
Driven pile length were 14m with pan thickness of 13-19mm and
were 600 in width. The piles were driven to varied depths from
13m down to 7m. The double acting cylinder produces high impact
energy from a short stroke giving a high blow rate.
The BSP SL30 da is available with legs and inserts for use as
freely suspended or with backguides for operating from a piling
mast. For this project, the hammer was operated attached to the
crane by kobie leader mast system.
ThyssenKrupp Steelcom, despite the remote situation the hammer
was in, did carry out maintenance on site to the customer’s
complete satisfaction. Talk about total customer service and product
support! The SL range hammers are sized for driving single piles
and can pass between upstanding piles.
The low hook weight and relatively small hydraulic power required
to operate, make these hammers an economical option for the construction
of pile walls, coffer dams and temporary earthworks.
ThyssenKrupp Steelcom offers total piling solutions including
hire and sell of steel sheet piles, impact and vibratory piling
hammers ranging from excavator mounted to large crane suspended
units, as well as, foundation equipment.
