Hull/Albem
Brighton, Queensland

BSP Hammer CG180 12 tonne suitable for driving:

  • Steel tubular bearing piles
  • Steel ‘H’ piles
  • Reinforced concrete RIC piles
  • Cast in situ CIS piles

The Houghton Highway project involves construction of a new 2.7km bridge between Brisbane and Redcliffe. The new bridge will be located 35 m east of the existing Houghton Highway bridge and will feature three traffic lanes, a pedestrian / cycle path, and a dedicated fishing platform.

The project, wholly funded by the Queensland Government is being delivered by Main Roads and its construction contractor, the Hull-Albem Joint Venture. The Hull-Albern Joint Venture was awarded the contract because of its ability to meet the bridge's unique design and durability specifications.

ThyssenKrupp Steelcom supplied the BSP CG180 12tonne hammer to drive 900mm dolphin piles in 36m length for the temporary bridge across
Morton Bay QLD. This temporary bridge is used for gaining access for other piling equipment to install the main bridge supporting piles and bridge laying equipment and machineries.

The CG180 hydraulic hammer is ideal for driving steel tubular bearing piles (such as dolphin piles), Steel “H” piles, reinforced concrete RIC piles and cast in situ CIS piles. The hammer is designed to operate from piling rig leaders or crane suspended.

The $315 million project is the first coastal bridge in Australia capable of withstanding a one-in-2000-year storm event and is due for completion in 2011.

ThyssenKrupp Steelcom offers total piling solutions including hire and sell of steel sheet piles, impact and vibratory piling hammers ranging from excavator mounted to large crane suspended units, as well as, foundation equipment.
