Levee Bank Rehabilitation
Austral Construction were contracted to erect a levee bank around
the township of Wentworth and chose sheet pile as an alternative
to full earth works rehabilitation to keep disruption to the township
at a minimum.
The contractor inserted sheet pile into the core of the levee
bank, thereby taking advantage of the piles’ inherent water
resistant capacity and reducing disruption to a nearby golf course.
Sheet pile was also used along a river-bed at the rear of houses
for erosion protection to the bank and in support of a gabion basket
retaining wall structure. The site disallowed full earth works
and the sheet pile provided a low impact alternative.
Along Cadell Street and adjacent to the junction of the Murray
and Darling Rivers, sheet pile was also used for erosion and flood
protection and to provide support to a T44 loading road.
