The Pluto LNG (liquified natural gas) project is set to become the fastest developed LNG project to the production of first gas in late 2010.

The $12 billion project will process gas from the Pluto and Xena gas fields, located in the Carnarvon Basin about 190km north-west of Karratha, WA. ThyssenKrupp Steelcom supplied Laing O’ Rourke with the required Macalloy 17MHS tie bars and accessories delivered to Dampier.

Macalloy 17MHS is a fine grain steel with an exceptional blend of mechanical properties, combined with rolled threads providing a material with superior fatigue performance.

Pluto LNG Project - Macalloy marine tie-bar system 17MHSDistributed in AU & NZ by ThyssenKrupp Steelcom, Macalloy marine tie-bar system 17MHS has a minimum yield stress= 460 N/mm2. For this project alone, ThyssenKrupp Steelcom has supplied tie rod systems with total lengths of 31000mm and 110000mm. The bars hadrolled thread sizes of M100/d=98mm, and M76/d=72mm.
